Mary & Don had several desires they wanted to incorporate into the new design. Besides updating all of the cabinetry, countertops, appliances and backsplash -- they also wanted to change the flooring throughout the first floor. They wanted tile in the kitchen, laundry room and hallway and hardware everywhere else. They wanted a nice clean transition between the two types of flooring with no change in elevation. This was a primary concern because they previously tried to achieve this in their master suite and had unsuccessful results with unskilled installer where they had a 1” step up onto the tile floor in the bathroom.
Each appointment seemed like a “date” for them, When we spent time together, shopping for products, reviewing the drawings or changing the specifications, and I (the designer) was a third wheel! They were committed to hearing each other’s input and compromised their own initial ideas for the others to achieve something for which they can both be happy with. It truly was a pleasure and blessing to see this loving relationship play out during a sometimes stressful design and renovation process.
The selections in this kitchen were Dynasty Cherry Wood, Nutmeg stain with Onyx glaze on a Destin door style. The used all stainless steel appliances and opted to shift the dishwasher location to the other side of the sink allowing for a beverage refrigerator to be easily accessed at the end of the sink peninsula. They used a natural crema tile with small glass accents around the space.
