Jackie & her girlfriends started “kitchen shopping” to look for ideas and begin discussions about changing the design of her space.
Living at home were Jackie, who recently retired from the School District of Philadelphia, Joe, her husband, owned his own machining business and their three college-aged children, two of whom were in postgraduate programs.
The old layout had unnecessary half-walls with spindles which created obstacles, cubby spaces between tall cabinetry, outdated appliances half of which did not work and poorly designed cabinetry/workspace layout.
The new layout removed the half wall planter box, then pushed large pantry & refrigerator cabinetry together creating more room for counter work space. We also removed the separate wall oven/cooktop/counter microwave and Jackie bought a slide-in range and micro/hood. They still needed a kitchen table so we removed the random drywall extrusion in the old kitchen and added a shallow-depth pantry to accommodate seating for five.
